Overview

Age-related diseases are conditions whose incidence rises markedly with advancing age, reflecting the gradual biological changes that accompany the ageing process. They include cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and fractures, osteoarthritis, age-related macular degeneration, cognitive decline and dementias such as Alzheimer's disease, sarcopenia and muscle dysfunction, and many cancers. These conditions share common underlying mechanisms, including cumulative cellular damage, chronic low-grade inflammation, oxidative stress, and declining tissue repair, and they are leading contributors to disability and reduced quality of life among older adults. Aging Research And Healthcare publishes peer-reviewed studies on the biology of ageing and the prevention and management of conditions linked to it. Research in the journal addresses muscle dysfunction in healthy ageing, osteoarthritis and its relationship to falls and frailty, secondary fracture risk in older adults, macular degeneration, and approaches to anti-ageing and longevity, alongside cognitive ageing and healthcare access for older populations. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to age-related disease and the broader study of healthy ageing, prevention, and care of older adults.
