Overview

Biological databases are digital collections of biological information such as DNA sequences, proteins, and other related information, most of which is stored in a computer system. They are essential tools for advancing the study of biology, enabling researchers to quickly and accurately access data from a wide variety of sources. With the aid of such databases, researchers can access and analyze data from a variety of sources, including both laboratory experiments and publicly available sources. Biological databases are also useful for conducting analyses of complex biological systems. For example, they can be used to analyze gene expression data and compare gene sequences across different species. Additionally, bioinformaticians can use databases to construct models of species evolution over time, as well as to study how different genes may interact with each other. In summary, biological databases are critical resources for furthering our understanding of biological systems, and they are key components of modern research and discovery.
