Overview
The International Journal of Blood Transfusion is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal devoted to the science and practice of transfusion medicine, the medical field concerned with the collection, processing, testing, storage, and clinical use of blood and blood components. Transfusion medicine encompasses donor selection and blood banking, immunohematology and compatibility testing, the safe administration of red cells, platelets, plasma, and derived products, the management of transfusion reactions, and the organization of blood services and supply systems. The journal provides a venue for research, reviews, and case studies that advance the safety, availability, and effectiveness of transfusion, including work on blood management systems and the strengthening of transfusion services in resource-limited settings; work in the journal's record includes a study describing collaborative healthcare approaches to bridging gaps in blood transfusion services in Cameroon.
