Overview
Culture media are nutrient-rich formulations designed to support the growth and maintenance of microorganisms, cells, or tissues under controlled laboratory conditions. Research published in the International Journal of Clinical Microbiology addresses diverse applications of culture media across clinical microbiology, plant biotechnology, and regenerative medicine. Studies have examined how media composition affects outcomes ranging from the isolation and identification of pathogenic fungi such as Candida species and Mucorales to the optimization of plant cell cultures for enhanced alkaloid production in Catharanthus roseus. Investigations have explored the influence of specific media components—including nutrient salts, sucrose concentrations, plant growth regulators, and supplements like L-carnitine—on cellular behavior and metabolic output. Additional work has focused on maintaining the stability of sensitive compounds such as insulin in culture systems and on developing media formulations suitable for stem cell applications, including mesenchymal stem cells from umbilical cord and adipose tissue. The topic remains essential because appropriate media selection and optimization directly impact diagnostic accuracy in clinical laboratories, therapeutic cell production for regenerative medicine, and the efficient biosynthesis of valuable natural products through in vitro cultivation systems.
