Editorial Board

Manuscripts submitted to International Marine Science Journal are screened, assigned and decided by the editorial board, whose members work in the marine sciences the journal publishes.

The board comprises 10 members; 7 of them record an ORCID iD, linked below so that any reader can confirm an identity and a publication record independently.

Governance

Editorial governance

How the board handles manuscripts, and the limits it works within.

Screening and review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Review model
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Reviewers
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decision criteria
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Editorial independence
Decisions rest with the handling editor and the board. Payment of an article processing charge, membership of any program, and an author's seniority or institution play no part in the assessment of a manuscript.
Competing interests
Editors declare financial and non-financial interests that could be seen to influence an assessment, and step aside from handling a manuscript where such an interest arises.
Manuscripts from editors
A manuscript authored or co-authored by a member of the board is handled by another qualified editor without a competing interest. The member takes no part in the assessment of their own work and has no access to the reviewer identities or reports.
Confidentiality
Submitted manuscripts are confidential. Editors and reviewers do not disclose, use or retain unpublished material, and reviewers securely delete downloaded files after submitting a review.

Marine research often involves field sampling, protected species, marine protected areas, fisheries data and animal welfare. Editors assess ethical compliance on those grounds alongside scientific quality; the requirements are set out in full on the Editorial Policies page, and reviewer expectations on the reviewer guidelines page.

Joining

Joining the board

The journal welcomes approaches from researchers working across marine and ocean science who are willing to handle manuscripts or review for IMSJ. Editorial appointments are made on subject expertise and publication record, and members are asked to declare competing interests on appointment and to keep that declaration current.

Researchers interested in an editorial or reviewing role can read the editor guidelines and the reviewer guidelines, or write to the editorial office.
