What a proposal should set out
International Physiology Journal welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions across physiology — from cellular and tissue mechanisms to organ-system regulation and whole-organism function. A collection may draw a scattered literature together, open a methodological question, or bring comparative and human work into the same frame.
A proposal is most useful when it states the question the collection addresses, why it is timely, the range of contributions expected, and the expertise of the researchers who would guide it. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to contact the editorial office to discuss a proposal before preparing it in full.

A collection’s topic is bounded by the journal’s Aims and Scope; a special issue does not redefine the remit.
Governance
How a collection is handled
Manuscripts submitted to a special issue enter the same editorial process as any other submission. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Guest editors work under the journal’s Editorial Policies. A guest editor declares competing interests and withdraws from handling any manuscript in which they have one, including their own; those manuscripts are handled independently.
Editorial decisions are independent of fees, services, membership, and editorial or reviewer roles.
