Overview

Conversation analysis (CA) is a research method used to study how people interact with each other conversationally. It is based on the assumption that the social structure of language is key to understanding the context of how people interact. Conversation analysis looks at how conversations are organized, how conversations move from topic to topic, and how social relationships are negotiated through conversations. CA has been used to study a variety of topics, from family dynamics and therapy sessions to virtual conversations. By understanding how people interact with each other through conversation, we can better understand how people interact in different contexts. As such, it has important implications for improving communication in a variety of settings, such as business management, medical care, educational settings, and more.
