Overview
Sustainable agriculture is an environmentally responsible approach to crop and livestock production that seeks to maintain long-term productivity while minimizing the depletion of natural resources and the generation of pollutants. It applies practices such as crop rotation and diversification, integrated pest and nutrient management, conservation tillage, residue retention, and Water and soil conservation, increasingly complemented by biological inputs such as biofertilizers, cyanobacteria, and mycorrhizal associations that improve nutrient cycling and soil function. The objective is to produce sufficient, nutritious food while safeguarding soil health, Water quality, and biodiversity, and building resilience to climate variability. Water management is central, given irrigation demand, Water-use efficiency, and the impacts of rainfall variability and salinity on yields. Research in this area examines permaculture practices for sustainable production, prospects for sustainable agriculture and the role of trained practitioners, strategic shifts to improve fertilizer response and foodgrain output, the use of biofertilizers and microbial inocula, and the climate-land degradation-food security nexus. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research spanning agronomy, soil and Water science, and agricultural biotechnology relevant to sustainable production, connecting field practices to resource conservation, food security, and adaptation in Water-constrained and changing environments.
