JHHR offers optional, fee-based membership plans for individual researchers, students, institutions, and organizations. Membership provides discounted access to Article Processing Charges (APCs) and administrative services — it is not required to publish with JHHR, and it has no role in peer review or editorial decisions.
Membership is optional. It is intended for individuals, students, and organizations who publish with JHHR regularly and want predictable, discounted access to Article Processing Charges. Authors who prefer to pay per article are not required to join — the standard Article Processing Charge applies to any submission regardless of membership status.
Fees below are the membership fee itself, billed in US dollars for the full term selected — not a separate Article Processing Charge. The standard APC is $2,100 (student rate $1,575); see Article Processing Charges for how the APC itself works.
| Membership type | Term | Fee | APC waivers included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual Researcher | 1 year | $5,400$2,970 | 5 per year |
| Individual Researcher | 2 years | $6,300$3,465 | 5 per year |
| Student / Early-Career | 1 year | $3,200$2,080 | Unlimited on regular-issue submissions† |
| Student / Early-Career | 2 years | $3,700$2,405 | Unlimited on regular-issue submissions† |
| Institutional | 1 year | $9,500 | 20 per year |
| Institutional | 2 years | $11,500 | 30 total |
| Corporate / Industry | 1 year | From $5,000, by agreement | Custom quota — contact for terms |
Individual-tier waivers apply toward the standard $2,100 APC: the $2,970 annual fee for 5 waivers represents roughly $594 of waiver value per manuscript, before any manuscript is submitted or reviewed. Institutional waivers work the same way: the $9,500 annual fee for 20 waivers represents roughly $475 of waiver value per manuscript against the same $2,100 list price. Institutional membership also includes an option to add one affiliate institution for an additional $500 per year. †Unlimited waivers are still subject to standard peer review and editorial acceptance for each manuscript — membership does not guarantee acceptance; see Editorial Independence & Fairness.
Article Processing Charge waivers are set out in the fee table above. The items below are the additional services included with each membership type.
Membership is a publisher-administered program for discounted Article Processing Charges. It has no role in manuscript evaluation.
Every JHHR submission — from a member or non-member — undergoes the same Single-blind (double-blind on request) peer review described in our Editorial Policies. Editorial decisions are made independently of ability to pay, membership status, or sponsorship. Membership confers no advantage in the review or acceptance of a member's own manuscripts, and does not shorten or otherwise change the review timeline described on the Submit Paper page.
