Publishing arrangements

Membership

Optional membership arrangements for researchers, students, institutions and organizations working in medical and health informatics and healthcare decision science.

Membership concerns publishing fees and administration. Authors can submit to JMID without joining, and membership does not affect editorial decisions.

01 · Membership and submission

The Journal of Medical Informatics and Decision Making publishes research on information, methods and systems in healthcare, alongside the science of healthcare decisions. Membership is available to participants across this scope, including methods researchers and researchers studying non-digital decision making.

A membership arrangement may include publication-charge reductions under its agreed terms. Compare the membership fee and coverage with the ordinary article processing charges before choosing a plan. Published articles remain openly accessible to readers without membership.

Read the Aims & Scope or review the article processing charges.

02 · Categories and fees

Individual researchers

For researchers and practitioners arranging publication-charge coverage for their own work. Membership fees are USD 2,970 for one year or USD 3,465 for two years.

Students

For graduate students, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers. Include a supervisor's recommendation letter with the inquiry. Membership fees are USD 2,080 for one year or USD 2,405 for two years.

Institutions

For universities, research institutes, hospitals and healthcare organizations coordinating arrangements for multiple authors. Membership fees are USD 9,500 for one year or USD 11,500 for two years. Identify the participating organization and authors when discussing coverage.

Corporate and industry groups

For organizations conducting or supporting research within the journal's scope. Arrangements start at USD 5,000 for one year; request a quote for the intended author group and term. Funding and commercial interests must be disclosed in manuscripts.

These are membership fees for the stated term, not per-article APCs. For ordinary submissions, the standard APC is USD 2,100 per accepted article; the student or trainee APC is USD 1,575, subject to the eligibility terms on the APC page. There is no submission or review fee. The article processing charge is requested only after acceptance.

03 · Establish the agreement

Request the written terms before enrolling. The agreement should identify:

  • The participating authors and organization, membership term and start date.
  • The article allowance, eligible article types and applicable publication-charge reductions.
  • Any additional charges, including coverage for affiliated institutions.
  • Any included language-editing or administrative services and their limits.
  • The conditions for renewal, changes to the plan and remaining entitlements.

Publication-charge coverage applies only to manuscripts accepted through the journal's editorial process. Language editing and administrative assistance do not determine the outcome of a submission.

04 · Editorial independence

Membership, payment, institutional participation and commercial sponsorship do not influence peer review or acceptance. The same editorial standards apply to members and nonmembers.

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Peer review: Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

Editorial policies explain the assessment process. Manuscript preparation requirements are in the Instructions for Authors.
