Aims and Scope


Journal of Death is an open access, peer reviewed scientific journal that explores the theoretical, conceptual, clinical, and cultural aspects of death. The primary objective of JOD is to advance scholarly research and foster interdisciplinary discussions on death, dying, and related phenomena, offering a global platform for researchers, scholars, and practitioners to share their insights.  
 

The journal encourages interdisciplinary research and seeks contributions in areas including but not limited to:  

  • Medical Perspectives on Death: End-of-life care, palliative medicine, hospice care, euthanasia, organ donation, and medical ethics.  
  • Psychological and Sociological Aspects: Grief, bereavement, mourning practices, thanatology, and the psychological impact of death on individuals and communities.  
  • Anthropological and Cultural Approaches: Death rituals, memorialization, cultural traditions surrounding death, and historical interpretations of mortality.  
  • Philosophical and Ethical Considerations: The meaning of death, existential perspectives, bioethics, and the relationship between life and mortality.  
  • Legal and Policy Issues: The right to die, assisted suicide, forensic studies, legal frameworks surrounding death, and death penalty debates.  
  • Technological and Digital Death: Virtual memorials, digital legacies, Artificial Intelligence and death, and the role of technology in posthumous identity.  
  • Historical and Literary Representations: The portrayal of death in literature, art, media, and historical records.  
     

JOD examines death from multiple dimensions, integrating perspectives from fields such as medicine, psychology, sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, bioethics, and law. The journal seeks to expand the discourse around mortality by publishing high-quality research on terminal illness, funerary customs, cultural interpretations of death, and historical mortality trends.
