A JTC special issue is a curated collection on one question in thyroid oncology, guest-edited by researchers who work on it. Proposals are accepted throughout the year.
01 · Proposals
Propose a special issue
JTC welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in thyroid oncology. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the requirements below and contact the editorial office.
Proposals are assessed for relevance to the journal, the scholarly contribution of the collection, guest-editor expertise, a feasible publication plan, and appropriate integrity safeguards.
02 · Requirements
What a proposal covers
- Topic and rationale. The question the collection addresses, and why it is worth a collection rather than a set of unrelated papers.
- Relation to the journal’s scope. Which of the core research areas in the aims and scope the collection sits in.
- Guest editors. Names, affiliations, ORCID iDs and a short statement of relevant expertise for each, with the disciplines they cover between them.
- Competing interests. Any interest each guest editor holds in the topic, including commercial and consultancy relationships.
- Article types sought. Which of the journal’s accepted types the collection invites.
- Expected scale. An estimate of how many submissions the collection expects, and where they would come from.
- Timeline. A proposed opening date and submission window.
- Invited contributions. Any contributions the guest editors intend to commission, and from whom.
03 · Assessment
How proposals are assessed
Scope and substance
The editorial office assesses the topic against the journal’s aims and scope and considers the scholarly value of presenting the work as a focused collection.
Guest editor expertise
Proposed guest editors are assessed on their published work in the area and on whether their combined expertise covers the disciplines the topic spans.
Competing interests
Declared interests are reviewed to determine appropriate guest-editor responsibilities and manuscript assignments.
Decision
The Editor-in-Chief decides. Accepted proposals are scheduled with an opening date and a submission window, and published on this page once open.
04 · Governance
How a special issue is run
Peer review and decisions
Every manuscript in a special issue follows the journal’s ordinary screening, peer-review, and decision criteria. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Guest editor conflicts
Manuscripts involving a guest editor’s institution, close collaborators, or own authorship are reassigned to a member of the journal’s editorial board.
Manuscripts by guest editors
Manuscripts submitted by a guest editor are handled independently by a journal editor, and the authorship is disclosed on the published article.
Final authority
Editorial authority rests with the Editor-in-Chief throughout. A guest editor recommends; the journal decides.
Charges
Articles in a special issue use the journal’s ordinary article processing charge, charged after acceptance only; that charge covers inclusion in the collection.
Collection completion
Accepted manuscripts continue through the journal’s ordinary issue sequence if a collection closes before completion.
05 · Submitting
Submitting to an open collection
When a collection is open it is listed on this page with its topic, its guest editors, its submission window and the article types it invites. Submit through the journal’s ordinary route and name the collection in the cover letter so it reaches the right editor.
Published collections
Browse published special issues in the journal archive. Collection records remain part of the published scholarly record.

Regular submissions
Special issues run alongside the journal’s ordinary stream, and regular submissions remain open throughout the year.
