Biography
Dr. Lifeng Peng is a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand, specializing in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics with applications in mammalian and microbial systems to advance medicine and biotechnology. His laboratory has established expertise in large-scale characterization and quantification of cellular proteomes across mammalian, plant, and microbial systems, as well as developing metabolomics methods for analyzing primary and secondary metabolites using LC mass spectrometry. His research encompasses metabolic pathway analysis employing stable isotope tracers to quantify metabolic fluxes in complex networks, offering sensitive and quantitative insights into cellular metabolism. Current research projects include investigating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), exploring mechanisms of lipid accumulation in liver cells and molecular responses to inform therapeutic drug development through integrated approaches combining cell culture, microscopy, and mass spectrometry analyses of proteins, metabolites, and metabolic fluxes. His most-cited publication, "Increased cellular detoxification, cytoskeletal activities and protein transport explain physiological stress in a lagoon sponge" (2021), demonstrates the breadth of his proteomic applications across diverse biological systems.
